Capital Assets Sr. Manager

Aletia Alvarez is the Capital Assets Sr. Manager for the Port of Olympia.

As the Capital Assets Sr. Manager, Aletia works with Port Leadership to develop, manage and implement the Port’s capital investment program.  She is responsible for working with Directors and other Senior Managers to manage and direct capital, public works, and maintenance projects, Port wide.

Aletia joined the Port of Olympia team in 2020 as the Facilities Maintenance Manager, responsible for providing leadership and management of staff and resources, and evaluation of assigned programs for Port-wide maintenance of facilities & properties for the Airport, Marina and various Port facilities and properties locations, including capital projects.  In 2022, she moved to serving as the Capital Assets Sr. Manager.  

Aletia brings to the Port a diverse and professional portfolio with over 35 years of experience as CEO, executive director, and manager. She has directed various complex projects and companies that include aviation, facility, and maritime operations. As a commissioned aviation officer (rotary-wing), her responsibilities included providing operational readiness for unit assets with oversight for over 20 million dollars of inventory consisting of 20 helicopters, 33 company vehicles, and all installation property and equipment.

She has held a U.S. Coast Guard 100-ton master mariner license and is the founding director of the Northwest Maritime Center, a 14-million dollar LEED facility and organization based in Port Townsend, WA. She has previously directed Port Townsend’s Wooden Boat Festival, and has taught basic diesel mechanics, built three handcrafted log homes, has run a full stop boat shop, worked on, restored, and sailed Neil Young’s classic schooner, and renovated historic buildings. She has also directed, and taught as faculty, for an International Leadership School with locations in Europe, Australia, South America, and the USA.

Aletia loves horses, is an avid road biker, and can be found tinkering in an abundance of home projects in her off-time. She is married to Annie Benson – an immigration lawyer and advocate.
