Port General Counsel

Deep legal expertise in the private and public sector

VaLiesha Brown serves as General Counsel for the Port of Olympia.

As General Counsel, VaLiesha provides professional legal counsel and expertise to the Port Commission, Executive Director, and all Port operations and departments. VaLiesha advises elected officials and Port personnel regarding legal aspects of commission meetings, open public meetings act compliance, public contracting, public records requests and responses, human resources and personnel matters, real property management and leasing, environmental, land use, tort claims, and other matters. She conducts legal research, manages outside counsel representing the Port in litigation matters, and all other legal and compliance matters.

VaLiesha brings the Port a strong background in employment law, workplace investigations, and labor relations. Prior to joining the Port of Olympia, VaLiesha worked as an attorney at Ogden Murphy Wallace in Seattle, as an advisor to the City of Seattle’s public utility departments, and as an associate attorney with a business litigation law firm in Maryland.

VaLiesha earned her law degree at Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C. Directly following graduation, she clerked for the Honorable Robert C. Nalley (ret.), judge for Charles County Circuit Court. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Washington.
