Integrated Port Peninsula Master Plan
Overview
The Port of Olympia Commission approved an evaluation of properties on the Port Peninsula to develop a comprehensive long-term land use plan in July 2024. Â
The Integrated Port Peninsula Master Plan aims to create a plan for future uses on the marine terminal, at Swantown Marina and Boatworks, and for other key areas, by integrating multiple projects into a holistic land use plan. It will include integrating the Budd Inlet cleanup, sea level rise resilience projects, the Deschutes Estuary restoration, and concepts from the Vision 2050 and Destination Waterfront community visions. Â
This planning effort is expected to be complete by August 2025.Â
About Master Plans
A master plan is a comprehensive long-term planning document that provides a vision for the future development of an organization or a community. It outlines the framework for land use, and economic development, ensuring a cohesive and sustainable approach.Â
Master Plan Community Involvement
Governments and organizations that implement a master plan are able gain insights into their communities through community meetings and surveys. Â
This leads to better decision-making because governments are able to incorporate local knowledge and expertise which improves the relevance of the plan, ultimately leading to more informed and effective decisions. Â
Community involvement also leads to increased transparency. This gives community members a voice in their future and promotes civic engagement. Â
